Established as a public university in 1879, Sam Houston University is now ranked in the top 400 out of over 4400 American universities. It is hosting more than 17,000 students. Sam Houston University offers 87 majors for undergraduate, 54 for graduate and 6 for doctoral degree. Its  strong and famous fields of studies are Educational Management, Psychology, Business Administration, Social Studies and Criminal Justice.

Following the MOU signed by September last year,  the two Presidents have discussed cooperation possibilities including faculty member and student exchange programs, preparatory programs for Vietnamese students who wish to study at Sam Houston University, summer special courses for American students and the dual degree program (2+2) for undergraduate.

The two Presidents have agreed, on principle, that both parties will consider necessary conditions to develop the above potential cooperation programs and assign the respective functional units for international affairs of the two universities to discuss further on the terms and conditions of the programs.

In the meeting, Prof.Dr.Vo Van Sen also briefed Prof.Gaertner of the current situation of Vietnam higher education. After the meeting, Prof.Gaertner kindly gave a talk on the state of higher education in the U.S.A to the students of Department of English linguistics and literature, Department of Education and Department of International Relations.
